CLEAVERS or CLIVERS

(Galium aparine; RUBIACEAE)

Therapeutic action:

Diuretic (lithotriptic), antiscorbutic, tonic, aperient, alterative, refrigerant.

 

Cleavers is a soothing, relaxing and diffusive diuretic which influences the kidneys and bladder. It acts mildly upon the bowels. As cleavers is a powerful diuretic, it should not be given where there is a tendency for diabetes.

 

Medicinal uses:

Gravel, scalding urine, bladder irritation, dropsy, scrofula, cancer, ulcers, scurvy, suppressions of urine, obstruction of urinary organs, gonorrhea, sore nipples, wounds.

 

Preparation:

Fluid Extract, infusion, powder, tincture.
