Part Used: Dried, unexpanded flower buds Therapeutic action: Stimulant, stomachic, aromatic, carminative, expectorant, anti emetic, antispasmodic, astringent, rubefacient, antiseptic, digestive, condiment. This herb increases circulation, promotes digestion and nutrition, raises the body temperature; stimulates the excretory organs, and stimulates and disinfects the kidneys, skin, liver and bronchial mucous membrane. It is the most powerful of the aromatic and carminative herbs. Medicinal uses: Ague, bad breath, bronchial catarrh, cholera morbus, cold extreme ties, colic, condiment, convulsions (infantile), corrective, diarrhea, dysentery, dyspepsia, epilepsy, flatulence, griping, indigestion, low blood pressure, mucus colitis, nausea, neuralgia, palsy, poor circulation, phthisis, rheumatism, sour stomach, toothache (oil), twitching, vomiting (pregnancy), zygotic diseases. Preparation: Used chiefly in combination with other aids. Infusion: 1 teaspoonful or dram Cloves, whole or powdered 1 pint water Preparation: Boil the water; and pour over the cloves and steep for 20 minutes in a closed stainless steel container over a very low flame. (The residue of the first infusion may be used a second time to make another infusion.) |
